....And done

If I were going to give anybody advice about writing their first scientific paper, I would say don't procrastinate.  Not even a little.  Not even if you get all your research done ahead of time.  Not even if you have a great rough draft done early.  Never.  Once you procrastinate one minute, you are behind.  Don't kid yourself, it is a hard thing to do.  Other than that, write about something that interests you, truly.  If I am not interested in something, forget it.  I will do a super half a$$ed job.  Well, I think that is about it for me.  Hope all of you have a great day.

Almost Over...

The term is almost over.  I am getting really excited to be finished with this class.  It's not that I did not enjoy this class, but I like finishing things.  And I am fairly proud of my grades this term.  I am almost done with my paper.  I have a few more things I want to revise.  Plus, I want to look over the grammar one more time.  I am not exhausted or nervous.  Just ready to get this class done and start another.  I find that I am looking past this class to the next class because I am getting closer and closer to my graduation date.  The path that I am now will allow me to graduate in about a year.  I have been going to school off and on since 2006.  I have transferred schools twice and lost credits.  I can't wait to be done with my Bachelor's Degree so I can move on to the next school.  I am probably going to go to paramedic school after I receive my degree.  I may go to welder's school for fun.  Then I am contemplating getting my master's.  I know that this seems like an immense amount of schooling ahead, even with it taking this long to get my bachelor's, but why not?  Why should I not learn everything I can?  Besides that, I am going to school via student loans (like most I assume).  I don't know if you have heard about this, but it is worth checking out.  Obama has begun a tuition forgiveness program.  In the year 2017 or close, if you have paid 20% of your loans, you will be forgiven for the rest of the money.  Which means you don't have to pay the rest.  WooooHoooo!!!  I don't know if this is true, but I plan on using it as much as possible.  I also plan on doing some more research on the subject.  Well I hope all of you are finishing your paper and feeling as good about things as I am.

Almost there....

So I have been posting to my blog every week.  Either I don't have any comments or I don't know where to find the comments.  Or maybe I don't have a spot on my blog for people to comment.  I have to say I have not commented on any body else's blog either.  I guess this blog thing isn't really for me.  I would say that it has been a "take it, or leave it" situation.  I don't really understand why people feel the need to blog about this and that.  I guess it is a way to get your opinion out there, but who is reading it?  I have never had a blog before, and I will not be continuing this blog.  I feel as though blogging is a waste of time.  If I want my opinion to be heard (read), I will start writing to state representatives.  Really trying to get your voice out there and make a difference is something to be proud of.  Something to strive for.  I think a blog is just a way to complain.  I don't think that much gets accomplished with a blog.  This is a rather negative blog about blogging.  Kind of funny.  I don't want to be negative.  This just isn't my thing.

Peer Review

I have not worked with a peer review before.  I am nervous and curious to see how the entire situation works.  I am waiting until tomorrow to finish my discussion and review two students' papers.  It will be difficult to review somebody else's work.  I don't want to offend anyone.  I don't think I will, but I will be very cautious.  I will think about what I have to say before I say it for sure.  I am also nervous because I have never had anybody really read my work other than a teacher.  I have had people read papers but always somebody I knew.  I don't know if they ever gave me an honest response.  I guess I look forward to the honest response from my peers.  Hopefully if will improve my writing process.   Who out there has had paper reviewed by a peer that they have never met?  It is sort of a raw experience.  Is it easier to tell the truth when you do not know the person?  Or is it easier to lie?  This sort of peer review could have ups and downs, I think.

Apple Orchards

About six weeks ago I was bartending in New Orleans at a fancy pants restaurant when the owner went to the store for limes.  I told her that I was completely out of limes for a busy Saturday night.  When she came back from the store, she only had three limes.  3!!!!!!  For anybody out there who has not bartended...This is not enough limes.  There were many different reasons I quit my job that night.  But the limes were the last straw, if you can believe that.  So, I got a job in the Pacific Northwest harvesting organic apples.  I live on the farm.  I work from about sun rise to sun set.  It is not incredibly hard work, but it takes its toll after a long day.  My hands get sore from using the clippers too much.  I do get to eat as many apples as I want.  That is pretty cool.  Thank goodness I like apples.  I work in the orchard, eating all the organic apples I want.  I make money and live for free.  The pay isn't terrible.  I have time to work on school most of the time.  It is a simple life.  It is kinda nice to not think about society.  I wish I was on a break from school.  I would have more time to go messing around the countryside.  I have been living a simple easy life for the last six weeks or so.  It is sooooo nice.  Hope all of you have been having an alright time.

Late for Class

My biggest academic challenge is procrastination.  When I went to a traditional college I was always late for class or didn't make it at all.  I would procrastinate leaving the house, doing homework and anything else I could put off, I did.  I do not like sitting in a class listening to somebody lecture.  I would rather be outside learning or learning hands on.  So it would seem that going to Kaplan is the best fit for me because I get to go to class wherever I am, at that time.  The scheduling for Kaplan is perfect for me. I would assume that most of you feel similar or you would not be attending Kaplan University.  But, is that really why you have decided to attend this school?

The World Champion New Orleans Saints did not look very good today.  I will keep cheering and fighting.  Hopefully the Saints will do the same.  We better buck up and bring it next week or we are going to get our butt whipped by Pittsburgh.  Happy Halloween!  Geaux Saints.

Oprah Got Swindled

In 2005 Oprah professed her utter love for the book "A Million Little Pieces".  She had the author on her show while the book was spending numerous weeks at the top of the sales charts.  Little did Oprah know that the entire book had been embellished, if it wasn't a flat out lie.   There was a huge scandal and Oprah went on the air and basically cursed the author and said he should be ashamed of himself.  Now, I am not sure that was the best way to handle the situation, but whatever, its Oprah.  And I don't know what else happened to that author other than nobody buying anything he writes ever again.  The whole situation was funny to me.  However, it is a rather serious situation.  Millions of dollars were paid to read about A Million Pieces of Bull Sh*t.  I would be mad if I had read the book before the truth came out.  I would have demanded my money back.  Now I don't know if the store would just have to eat it on that or not.  But they should make the author give back those fat checks he had been lining his pockets with.  Hilarious.
